Curaçao sees busy first six months of 2018, numbers show

WILLEMSTAD, Curaçao — The number of so-called stayover arrivals to Curaçao grew by 2 percent during the first half of 2018 compared to a year ago.

The idyllic island paradise welcomed 204,804 stayover visitors during the first six months of the year. Minus visitors from Venezuela, which is in the midst of a significant economic crisis, tourism officials said the number of stayover arrivals would have grown by 8 percent.

The island saw a total of 86,435 Dutch visitors, an increase of 11 percent. A total of 36,094 visitors came from the United States, up 14 percent, while the number of visitors from Canada grew with 6 percent.

Tourism has a direct impact of $307.8 million on the local economy, officials said.
