Smyrna Ward 6 Election: A Q&A with candidate Tim Gould

Tim Gould, president of ZAG Equipment Sales, is one of five candidates vying for the Ward 6 post in Smyrna.

He has lived in Smyrna and Mableton for 16 years, including the last six in Smyrna.

Alexander Backry, Shaun Black, Idella Moore and Brant Suddath also qualified. Early voting for the May 22 election begins on April 30.

The winner succeeds Doug Stoner, who stepped down in February to run for the state’s Public Service Commission.

What are the biggest issues facing Smyrna (and specifically Ward 6)?

Residents repeatedly focus on the same core issues. They want their city council person to help raise the profile of our schools; keep Smyrna livable through smart growth; ensure our neighborhoods are safe; and they expect a responsive, involved representative.

Why should voters cast a ballot for you?

I am the only person in the race who started their own business and successfully managed it for 19 years. Similar to a City Council person, I am responsible for ensuring we meet customer expectations, manage our revenue and expenses, and continue to grow. I am dedicated to improving the lives of others through my passions for family, education, and church. I work hard, I am honest, and I will dedicate my time to ensure Smyrna stays a great place to live, work and run a business.

What legislation or initiatives do you plan on pursuing as a council member?

Keep residents informed of any zoning activity and encourage constructive input. Support community and business organization promoting our schools. Help form neighborhood watch groups and increase resident communication with Smyrna police. Establish easy communication patterns with Ward 6 residents and respond promptly to questions and concerns.

What else would you like voters to know?

As a City Council person, I will champion and advocate for a livable Smyrna. My prospective as a small business owner and dedicated community leader gives me the experience to effectively work with the Mayor, City Council and city staff. My wife and I dedicate our resources and time to community causes we believe improve the lives of others. And I will always support and fight for the residents of Smyrna.
