ATLANTA — It’s still months until Atlanta voters head to the polls, but Mary Norwood has an early lead in the crowded race, according to a new WSB-TV poll.
The poll revealed 28.6 percent of 1,200 likely voters said they would cast a ballot for Norwood if the election were held today.
More than a dozen people are vying for the post. While Norwood is the only candidate with a double-digit showing in the poll, 28 percent of voters are undecided.
State Sen. Vincent Fort, D-Atlanta, saw the second-most support with 9.3 percent. City Councilwoman Keisha Lance-Bottoms rounded out the top three with 8.0 percent.
The election will be held on Nov. 7. An almost certain runoff would follow on Dec. 5.
The winner replaces Mayor Kasim Reed.
Reed in December 2009 edged out Norwood in runoff following a hotly contested race. Norwood was elected to her current at-large post in 2014.
