Atlanta, Fulton voters to decide on transportation tax

ATLANTA — Voters in Atlanta and Fulton County on Tuesday will vote on whether to raise taxes to expand transit.

Voters in the city of Atlanta will cast ballots on two tax increases. One will add an additional 0.5 percent while the second will add 0.4 percent.

The 0.5 percent tax will raise $2.5 billion over 40 years, officials said. Meanwhile, the 0.4 percent tax will raise $300 million over five years, including $66 million for the Atlanta Beltline to purchase the remainder of the 22-mile loop around the city.

Voters in Fulton County but who live outside of the city limits of Atlanta will decide whether to levy an additional 0.75 percent sales tax.
