Rome celebrates 2,769th birthday

ROME, Italy — The city of Rome in late April celebrated the city’s 2,769th birthday.

According to legend, twin brothers Romulus and Remus founded the city on April 21, 753 BC. Their mother, Rhea Silvia, conceived the twins by the god Mars, but the twins were raised by a she-wolf, according to the legend.

However, many sources believe the area was inhabited before 753 BC. The area of modern-day Rome is considered to be among the “oldest continuously occupied sites in Europe.”

Of course, Rome is one of the world’s truly inspiring cities. From aqueducts to roads to construction, the Roman influence on the world can still be felt to this day.

A walk through the Roman Forum, for example, is a truly inspiring experience.
