Braves EVP Schiller to Address Buckhead Business Association

An Atlanta Braves executive who is helping lead the team’s move from Downtown Atlanta to Cobb County will address the Buckhead Business Association (BBA) on Dec. 3.

Derek Schiller, executive vice president of sales and marketing, will address the organization during its breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 3 at the City Club of Buckhead. He will field questions from attendees following his remarks.

The Braves in November 2013 announced they are leaving Turner Field after the 2016 season and relocating to a new stadium in the Cumberland area of Cobb County near Smyrna. The new stadium and surrounding amenities are currently under construction, and when finished, the new complex will include a mix of office space, a hotel and restaurants from some of the city’s top chefs.

“The announcement the Braves are leaving the city of Atlanta after five decades was a surprise to many of our BBA members,” said Greg Davis, president of the BBA. “That’s why we are looking forward to the opportunity to hear directly from a Braves executive and to ask questions about the new stadium and what fans can expect when it opens for the 2017 season.”

Added Davis: “We strive to use our weekly meetings to keep our members informed of current events in Buckhead and the city of Atlanta.”

The Braves have played in Downtown Atlanta since moving from Milwaukee after the 1965 season. The team has called Turner Field, originally built for the 1996 Olympics, its home since 1997.

The BBA meets at 7:30 a.m. most Thursday mornings at the City Club of Buckhead and features a mix of business, political and civic leaders as speakers. Tickets for members are $10 in advance and $12 at the door; non-member tickets are $20.
