SMYRNA, Ga. — The joke’s on you, motorist.
It’s no secret the Atlanta Braves move to the Smyrna area will have a major — and negative — impact on the region. But, now comes a Cobb County official who acknowledges the mess it will likely be — from a traffic standpoint, at least.
According to a report in the Marietta Daily Journal (via the Atlanta Business Chronicle), Jim Wilgus, Cobb’s deputy transportation director, apologized to residents.
“The next year and a half is going to be something in this area,” said Wilgus, the paper reports. “Anybody who has to travel on Windy Hill (Road), I’m sorry.”
Added Wilgus: “I don’t know a road that you can safely travel on that’s not going to have construction on it in Cumberland. I’ll just go ahead and say that.”
The Atlanta Braves are vacating Turner Field in downtown Atlanta and moving to the suburbs in time for the 2017 season. Among the complains the Braves offered is a lack of transit options to the Turner Field, though the new stadium, situated near the Interstate 75 and Interstate 285 interchange, is not likely to offer better commuting options.
