The Memorial Day holiday weekend is soon approaching. Colonel Mark W. McDonough, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety, said the 78-hour holiday patrol period will begin Friday, May 22 at 6 p.m. and end midnight on Memorial Day.

Three meat co. owners sentenced to federal prison
ATLANTA — Three owners of an Atlanta meat company were sentenced this week to federal prison on charges of tax and immigration fraud. U.S. District Judge Thomas W. Thrash Jr. sentenced Rhett Maughon, 49, of Decatur, Rafael Villarreal Sr., 42, of Suwanee, and Marcus Maughon, 47, of Decatur, to prison after all three pleaded guilty to various charges in October 2011.
