‘State of Buckhead’ rescheduled to March 12 due to weather

ATLANTA — As a result of expected inclement weather, tomorrow’s Buckhead Business Association (BBA) breakfast has been canceled.

Former Atlanta Mayor Sam Massell will now give his annual “State of Buckhead” address during the BBA’s breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, at the City Club of Buckhead.

Massell, 87, served as Atlanta’s mayor from 1970 to 1974, the 53rd mayor in the city’s history, and since leaving office has remained in public view. In 1988, he became the founding President of the Buckhead Coalition, an invite-only civic organization comprised of local CEOs, and also served on the board of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games.

As mayor, Massell is credited with establishing many of the icons and assets that helped Atlanta grow into the city it is today, from the Omni Coliseum to Woodruff Park to the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), and even the small Charlie Loudermilk Park in Buckhead. He is also credited with opening City Hall opportunities to minorities.

Tickets for BBA breakfasts are $20 for non-members; member tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. For more information or to buy tickets, visit buckheadbusiness.org.
