The Medicine Sessions, Push Down & Turn’s third full-length album showcases the band’s ability to write and perform great music.
Started at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, in 1993, Push Down & Turn has caught the attention of music critics over the past four years Their self-titled debut release in 1994 featured such concert favorites as I Wanna Fly and Jaded both of which were performed when PDT played at Denison on September 12th.
Their follow-up album, 12 Days in April, released on April 12, 1995, contains PDT fan favorites Indian Summer and November Girl. The albums title track was voted Best New College Song by MTV In January 1997 Push, Down & Turn began recording once again.
This time a 4 song EP was the result. Intended only to be sent to record companies, the fans demand for this gem was so great that PDT produced small quantities of this album.
1997 proved to be a big year for the young band as they were invited to join the H.O.R.D.E. festival in the Chicago, New York and New Jersey areas.
Also featured on the festival were Beck, Toad the Wet Sprocket, The Ben Folds Five and Neil Young.
By the end of the year, Push, Down & Turn had opened for such bands as the Counting Crows and The Freddie Jones Band.
After continual touring and recording throughout 1997 and into early 1998, the band finally released The Medicine Sessions this past summer. From the introduction guitar chords of the albums opening track, She Don’t, through the hard-edged rock songs of Smooth and Cold to the lyrical Glass Carousel.
The Medicine Sessions proves to be the bands best release to date. These songs along with their old favorites can be heard at any Push Down Turn show.
