Ga. texting ban goes into effect
ATLANTA – Would-be texters beware! A new state law that prohibits motorists from texting while behind the wheel takes effect tomorrow. Under the law, anyone convicted of texting while driving would face of up to $150. “A lot of accidents are caused by drivers becoming distracted, and texting is definitely a sure way to distract drivers,” Neighbor Newspapers quoted Henry County Police Capt. State Supreme Court changes rule to avoid fee increase
As part of a lengthy bill raising a number of fees statewide, the cost of copying files of cases on appeal would significantly increase. HB 1055, which Gov. Sonny Perdue signed into law on May 12, increased the cost to copy files from $1.50 per page to $10 per page – or from $750 to $5,000 for a 500-page file. But the state’s Supreme Court has created a work around aimed at keeping costs down.
Sen.: No guns in airports nationwide
ATLANTA – A senator from New Jersey has introduced legislation he says was prompted by a bill the Georgia General Assembly passed. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., introduced the “Firearm-Free Airports Act” that would ban anyone except law enforcement personnel from “carrying firearms into commercial airports nationwide.” Lautenberg filed his legislation in response to a bill that is now awaiting Gov.
