Athens, Ga., landmark destroyed in blaze

An Athens landmark was heavily damaged during a fire today. Winder – who is credited with bringing the Georgia, Carolina & Northern Railway to town. Jefferson, once named Thomoccoggan, was named in honor of President Thomas Jefferson.

Fort McClellan has some interesting buildings. The fort, as it were, is no longer a fort. It’s an area of Anniston, Ala., that is being redeveloped – officer housing, for example, is now a residential development.
