Fort Nassau Restaurant

Overview

Fort Nassau Restaurant is located in the 18th-century Fort Nassau overlooking Willemstad and its harbor in Curaçao.

Built in 1797 to defend the island, it was originally named Fort Republic. After British forces captured Curaçao in 1807, it was renamed Fort George. Dutch control was restored in 1816, and the fort was subsequently renamed Fort Orange Nassau in honor of the Dutch royal family.

The fort later became associated with harbor operations and was designated a national monument by the Monument Foundation of Curaçao in 1959. Surviving features include cannons, a former prison and facilities once used by soldiers. Today, Fort Nassau houses a restaurant serving lunch and dinner in a semi-open-air setting. Its hilltop location provides panoramic views of Willemstad, the harbor and the bridges connecting Punda and Otrobanda.
