Burn Notice

Burn Notice is an American spy television series created by Matt Nix, which originally aired on the USA Network from June 28, 2007, to September 12, 2013.

The show spans seven seasons with a total of 111 episodes.

The series centers on Michael Westen, a former spy who is “burned” — discredited and cut off from the legitimate world by the agency he used to work for. Stranded in Miami with few resources, Michael takes on jobs as an unlicensed private investigator while trying to unravel the mystery of who burned him and why.

He is assisted by his ex-girlfriend, Fiona Glenanne, and his friend Sam Axe.

Characters:

  • Michael Westen (portrayed by Jeffrey Donovan): The protagonist is a U.S. spy who finds himself discredited and abandoned.
  • Fiona Glenanne (Gabrielle Anwar): Michael’s ex-girlfriend and a former IRA operative, who helps him with his investigations.
  • Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell): Michael’s friend and former Navy SEAL, who provides support and comic relief.
  • Madeline Westen (Sharon Gless): Michael’s mother who becomes involved in his efforts to clear his name.
  • Jesse Porter (Coby Bell): A counterintelligence expert introduced in season four.

Burn Notice received generally positive reviews for its pace, humor, dialogue, and combination of espionage and crime drama presented in an irreverent tone. In 2010, it was the second most-watched cable scripted series, with 6.7 million viewers.

The show also inspired a prequel movie, “Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe,” which aired in 2011.
