Once planned as a temporary method of commuting, the Roosevelt Island Tramway quickly gained in popularity and is now a permanent fixture of the island and a symbol of the city itself.

Though it might seem difficult to believe, in less than 150 years, this arid area known as “The Valley of the Sun” has grown from small farming community to major metropolitan city.
