The second week of the legislative session is commonly referred to as “Budget Week” at the State Capitol. The budget process begins with Gov. Brian Kemp presenting a proposed budget for consideration by the General Assembly.
Cleveland, Ohio, is famous for corned beef sandwiches, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the 2016 Republican National Convention. This week, I’m proud to say I’ll get to enjoy all three.
There is only one bill that the Georgia General Assembly has to pass each year – the budget. It is our predominant duty, more important than any law we pass under the Gold Dome and a duty more important that any partisan agenda. As your elected representatives and senators, we must remain good stewards of your money.
This week, the Senate convened for its first day of the 2015 legislative session, and the newly elected senators were sworn in for our two-year term of office. I paid special attention as my colleagues reminded me why I was there.
