Overview
Crown Hill Memorial Park is a cemetery and mausoleum complex in Dallas, Texas. The property originated as part of a 256-acre dairy farm purchased by J.W. Smith in 1858. Members of the Smith family and other local families were buried on a portion of the property from the late 19th century into the early 20th century. In 1935, the former dairy farm became the Walnut Hill Golf Club, which was later converted into a cemetery.
Construction of Crown Hill Mausoleum began in March 1940 using plans by architect B. Gaylord Noftsger. Completed that December and dedicated on March 23, 1941, the mausoleum reflects the Art Deco architecture prevalent in Dallas during the period. Much of its original interior remains intact. Crown Hill Mausoleum was designated a Dallas historic landmark in 1990.
