Overview
The 1996 Manchester bombing occurred on June 15, 1996, when the Provisional Irish Republican Army detonated a truck bomb on Corporation Street in central Manchester, England. The bomb contained about 1,500 kilograms of explosives and was the largest detonated in Great Britain since World War II.
The bombing targeted Manchester’s commercial center and caused extensive damage to buildings and infrastructure. Insurers estimated the damage at about £700 million, making it one of the costliest bombings associated with the Troubles.
