Hotel Indigo Atlanta undergoing major renovation

ATLANTA — Hotel Indigo Atlanta-Vinings Galleria is in the middle of a major renovation aimed at overhauling guest-facing areas ahead of the busy summer travel season, according to a notice posted on the hotel’s website.

The hotel said the project runs from Jan. 12 through June 1 and is designed to “elevate the character, comfort, and storytelling” associated with the Hotel Indigo brand. During the work, some areas may be temporarily closed, and guests may experience light daytime noise, the notice said.

The property, located at 2857 Paces Ferry Road near the Cumberland area, has cycled through several iterations over its roughly four-decade history.

The hotel, originally named Vinings Overlook Inn, opened as a Wyndham in about 1987. It later operated as a Marriott Courtyard, and then joined InterContinental Hotels Group’s boutique Hotel Indigo portfolio.

The hotel was overhauled around 2010, according to one travel guide. IHG announced the opening of the 160-room Hotel Indigo Atlanta-Vinings in November 2015, describing it at the time as the brand’s third hotel in the metro Atlanta area.

Ownership has changed hands more recently. In May 2022, Commonwealth Hotels announced that Baraka Capital Management had acquired the Hotel Indigo Atlanta Vinings. Commonwealth said the deal made the property its first Hotel Indigo in Georgia.

The hotel touts its location as about 20 minutes from downtown Atlanta, though that depends on traffic. It also positions itself near shopping and entertainment destinations in the Galleria area while remaining outside the city’s central business district.
