Three U.S. F-15s involved in friendly fire incident in Kuwait; pilots safe

Three U.S. Air Force fighter jets were shot down late Saturday in what officials described as an apparent friendly fire incident over Kuwait during ongoing combat operations tied to Operation Epic Fury.

At approximately 11:03 p.m. ET on March 1, three U.S. F-15E Strike Eagles flying in support of the operation went down after being mistakenly engaged by Kuwaiti air defense systems. The incident occurred amid active hostilities that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles and drones.

All six aircrew members safely ejected and were recovered. Officials said they are in stable condition.

Kuwait has acknowledged the incident. U.S. officials expressed gratitude for the response and support of Kuwaiti defense forces as operations continue in the region.

The cause of the mistaken engagement remains under investigation. Officials said additional details will be released as more information becomes available.
