ATLANTA – Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp today signed a pair of bills, including one that suspends the state’s motor fuel tax for 60 days.

“It is no secret that every day Georgians are feeling the added financial strain at the pump, and this legislation would help to reduce some of that pressure, while also supporting our state’s economy,” state Rep. Gerald Greene, R-Cuthbert, said in a release.

House Bill 1000 provides a one-time income tax rebate for taxpayers who filed timely income tax returns for both 2024 and 2025. The legislation provides refunds of $250 for a single taxpayer or a married taxpayer filing separately, $375 for a head of household, and $500 for a married couple filing jointly.

House Bill 1199 aligns Georgia’s Internal Revenue Code with federal law, following changes included in the “Big Beautiful Bill of 2025.” This legislation also allows for the suspension of the state motor fuel tax for 60 days.

“Today’s suspension of the state gas tax enabled by House Bill 1199 will save hardworking Georgians and the truckers who keep our state moving nearly $400 million over the next 60 days,” House Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington, said in a release. “Whether it’s the immediate relief for millions of businesses, drivers, and citizens in House Bill 1199, the income tax rebates enabled by House Bill 1000, or the property tax relief grants in the Amended 2026 Budget, here in Georgia, we aren’t just talking about addressing affordability, we’re delivering results.”

According to AAA, the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Georgia is $3.79, up from $2.80 a month ago.

“House Bill 1199 will provide immediate relief for Georgia’s small businesses,” National Federation of Independent Business State Director Hunter Loggins said in a release. “Fuel costs affect nearly every part of the supply chain, from production to delivery. While gas prices are below the record highs of 2022, they have risen sharply in the past month, driving up costs across the board.

“Suspending the state’s 33.3-cent-per-gallon gas tax and 37.3-cent diesel tax will lower operating costs and provide relief for small businesses and their customers,” Loggins added.
