GORE, New Zealand — Police are investigating a firearms incident that left two people injured at a house on Aparima Street shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Both victims were airlifted to hospital. One is in serious condition and the other sustained moderate injuries, authorities said.
Offenders fled the scene before officers arrived and remain outstanding. Southland police say multiple lines of inquiry are underway to identify and locate those responsible and that the incident is being treated with urgency.
Investigators do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the wider community. However, a scene guard remained at the property overnight, and a forensic examination was scheduled for Thursday morning.
Police are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area or has relevant information to contact 105, referencing case number 251203/6133, or to report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111.
