GORE, New Zealand — Police are investigating a firearms incident that left two people injured at a house on Aparima Street shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Both victims were airlifted to hospital. One is in serious condition and the other sustained moderate injuries, authorities said.
Offenders fled the scene before officers arrived and remain outstanding. Southland police say multiple lines of inquiry are underway to identify and locate those responsible and that the incident is being treated with urgency.
Investigators do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the wider community. However, a scene guard remained at the property overnight, and a forensic examination was scheduled for Thursday morning.
