American Airlines will launch seasonal nonstop service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Edinburgh, Scotland, beginning March 8, 2026, expanding the carrier’s trans-Atlantic network ahead of the peak travel season.
The daily flight will run through Oct. 24, 2026, using American’s new Airbus A321XLR, configured with 20 Flagship Suite seats, 12 premium economy seats and 123 in the main cabin. The aircraft includes high-speed Wi-Fi and seatback entertainment with Bluetooth connectivity.
The JFK–EDI service complements American’s Philadelphia–Edinburgh seasonal route, which will operate March 28 to Oct. 24, 2026, on Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Travelers also gain additional itinerary options via Atlantic Joint Business partner British Airways, which flies from Edinburgh to destinations in England, Italy and Spain.
American says the A321XLR will allow it to open new long-thin routes while offering lie-flat seats with direct aisle access in its premium cabin and upgraded premium economy amenities. Hot meals and complimentary beverages will be available in all cabins on trans-Atlantic flights, with rotating menus.
With the addition of JFK–Edinburgh, American counts seven new trans-Atlantic routes planned for summer 2026, following August announcements that included Budapest and Prague. The airline is introducing the A321XLR domestically on JFK–Los Angeles flights starting Dec. 18 and plans to keep the type on that route through March 2026 before deploying it more widely.
