New Zealand Police appeal for information following Cook Strait mayday call

New Zealand Police are appealing for information after a mayday call reported a vessel in distress in the Cook Strait late Monday night.

The call, made around 10 p.m. local time, indicated several people were on board a boat about three nautical miles from Karori Rock. Search teams from Police, Coastguard Wellington, CentrePort, Wellington Airport Fire and Rescue, and Interislander scoured the area until 2:30 a.m. but found no debris.

A shoreline and boat ramp search also yielded nothing, and efforts resumed on Tuesday morning. Police are urging anyone with information about the reported incident to come forward.
