Is licorice the best road food? We asked an expert

It’s road trip season, and one of the most important aspects of any trip is the snacks.

A personal favorite on any road trip is licorice. It’s one of the easiest road foods to pack or take on a road trip.

To understand how great it is, Sightseers’ Delight connected with a licorice insider at Wiley Wallaby to discuss what makes the snack a great one for road trips.

“A great road food makes the trip more enjoyable, relaxing, and exciting,” the insider told Sightseers’ Delight. “It is what you look forward to taking out, opening, and then sinking into your seat with for the hours ahead on the road. It isn’t messy and offers a sweet escape. It makes the trip an event!

“Licorice is sweet and flavorful. It isn’t messy if you drop it, and it comes in bite size pieces,” the insider said. “Our bags are resealable, so you don’t have to eat it all at once or worry about the bag spilling when you aren’t eating it!”

Wiley Wallaby makes for a great snack, and it’s not just because they reached out to discuss the perfect summer getaway. The company began a few years ago when its founders were tired of eating licorice they described as “flavorless” and “impossible to chew.”

They knew they could do better — and they did.

“We say that our licorice is more Australian inspired,” the Wiley Wallaby insider told Sightseers’ Delight. “Australian licorice is generally softer, thicker, and flavorful. The pieces can be shorter as well.

“Wiley Wallaby is so soft and chewy, so bursting with terrific taste, you need look no further for the satisfaction you crave,” the insider said. “We packed it so full of flavor, there was less room for the things that you could do without. Less sugar and absolutely no dairy or high fructose corn syrup in our fruit flavors makes Wiley Wallaby the candy your conscience feels better about, too! Win-win-win!”

Now, as for the best flavor of Wiley Wallaby. That’s a different story for a different day, but I like to start with the traditional black licorice.
