Kennesaw City Councilman Anthony Gutierrez wants to ease misdemeanor marijuana possession criminal penalties. The city famously mandates that the heads of households own a firearm.
Right now, anyone caught in Kennesaw with less than an ounce of marijuana faces a misdemeanor penalty that carries a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail.
However, WSB-FM reported that other area jurisdictions, such as Athens and Atlanta, lessened penalties for similar offenses.
City council members could introduce a measure next week, the radio station reported.
