The Georgia Senate Public Safety Committee advanced a measure to provide inmates who have completed their prison sentence the documents needed for employment.
Under Senate Bill 147, sponsored by state Sen. Michael “Doc” Rhett, D-Marietta, those documents include copies of the inmate’s vocational training record, inmate’s work record, certified copy of birth certificate, copy of social security card or replacement, resume, including any trade learned by the inmate, and the inmate’s proficiency at the trade, and documentation that inmate completed a practice job interview.
The corrections department can also coordinate with the Department of Driver Services to provide a state-issued identification card if a person does not have a current state-issued identification card or driver’s license. If eligible, the department may also include a program and treatment completion certificate.
