The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration has terminated approval of the pilot for New York’s Central Business District Tolling Program.

In a letter to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, the Department rescinded a Nov. 21, 2024, agreement signed under the Value Pricing Pilot Program that effectively ends tolling authority for New York City’s cordon pricing plan, which imposes tolls on drivers entering Manhattan below 60th Street.

“I would like to commend President Trump for his leadership and dedication to the people of New Jersey regarding his decision to eliminate the congestion pricing plan in New York City,” New Jersey Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco said in a statement. “This is not only a win for commuters simply trying to earn a living, but it also ensures that all New Jerseyans will no longer be forced to bear the unfair burden of these ridiculous fees.”
