The mysterious drones flying over parts of North and Central New Jersey pose no threat to the public, Gov. Phil Murphy said.
In a post to X, Murphy said he convened a briefing with Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, senior U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials, the NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, New Jersey State Police, and members of the state’s congressional delegation to discuss reported drone activity.
“We are actively monitoring the situation and in close coordination with our federal and law enforcement partners on this matter,” Murphy said in the post. “There is no known threat to the public at this time.”
State Sen. Anthony Bucco, R-Boonton, offered a similar take.
“For the last several weeks a number of municipalities in and around Morris County have experienced drone sightings in various locations, including a few over my own home. I have been in contact with the State Police, County Sheriff, and the Morris County Prosecutor,” Bucco said in a statement. “I have been assured that there is no known imminent threat from these devices. Our law enforcement community, including the FBI, continues to gather information on the drones and providing information to the public as it becomes available.”
“Anyone with information regarding the drones, including sightings, should contact their local Police Department on their direct local number,” Bucco added. “911 should be reserved for cases of emergency only. I will continue to work with law enforcement at all levels to assure the safety of our communities.”
Yesterday I convened a briefing with @SecMayorkas, senior officials from @DHSgov, @NJOHSP, and @NJSP, and members of our congressional delegation to discuss reported drone activity over parts of North and Central New Jersey.
We are actively monitoring the situation and in close…
