Henry Ford exhibit showcases the allure of the diner

DEARBORN, Michigan — The iconic diner has always represented more than just a place to enjoy hot coffee and a warm meal.

An ongoing exhibit at The Henry Ford, “Dick Gutman, DINERMAN,” showcases the history of diner architecture and design and honors the preservation efforts that keep diners relevant today.

For more than 50 years, Richard J.S. Gutman has been deeply immersed in the origins, design, and operation of diners in America. His passion for the diner experience and his desire to collect and photograph led to the exhibit, which is open through March 16, 2025.
