The Helen Oktoberfest is the longest-running of its kind in the United States.

The Helen Chamber hosts a 54-year tradition of jovialität and fröhlichkeit, featuring performers from Germany and German communities in many states. Helen Oktoberfest runs through Oct. 27.

The area hosts the Oktoberfest celebration as the Blue Ridge foothills area is often compared to Bavaria. The landscape inspired Helen’s Alpine architecture, cobblestone pathways and gingerbread-laced buildings.

The riverside Helen Festhalle welcomes visitors for German bands, dancing and authentic food and beverages in an atmosphere like no other.

Visitors can enjoy performers in traditional dirndls, Tyrolean hats and lederhosen. They can also sample beer and food, including six kinds of wurst and German potato salad.
