Willie James Pye executed in Georgia

Georgia officials executed Willie James Pye on Wednesday for the 1993 kidnapping, robbery, rape, and murder of Alicia Lynn Yarbrough.

The execution was carried out at 11:03 p.m. on Wednesday at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Center in Jackson, Georgia.

Pye was sentenced to death in the summer of 1996 for the slaying. According to state Department of Corrections numbers, before Pye’s execution, 75 men and one woman were executed in Georgia since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976.

Pye is the 54th inmate put to death by lethal injection.

He requested a last meal of two chicken sandwiches, two cheeseburgers, french fries, two bags of plain potato chips and two lemon-lime sodas.
