Police identify woman charged with pouring gasoline on historic MLK Birth Home

Atlanta Police have changed a 26-year-old woman after allegedly pouring gasoline on the historic Martin Luther King Jr. Birth Home on Auburn Avenue in Atlanta.

Laneisha Shantrice Henderson was charged with attempted arson (2nd degree) and interfering with government property. Police said she was transported to Grady Detention for evaluation and will be transferred to Fulton County Jail once discharged from Grady Detention.

According to police, at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, Atlanta Police Zone 6 officers responded to a report of vandalism in progress at 501 Auburn Ave. NE.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers detained a female suspect who multiple citizens had stopped. Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect had poured gasoline onto the property.
