Two arrested following contraband investigation at Fulton County Jail’s South Annex

Authorities arrested a 37-year-old Fulton County sheriff’s detention officer following a contraband investigation at Fulton County Jail’s South Annex Jail.

Latasha Baker was charged with three counts of possession of prohibited items by an inmate and three counts of violation of oath by a public officer. Baker was arrested on Nov. 16 and terminated on Nov. 17.

She was assigned to the South Annex Jail in Union City and is also accused of inappropriate behavior with a current male inmate at the same facility.

Baker worked as a detention officer with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office from Feb. 10, 2016, to Jan. 12, 2022, and rehired on June 7.

During the investigation, 20-year-old Jaheim Arnold was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, and several other traffic violations.

Baker and Arnold are being held at the Fulton County Jail without opportunity for bond. The investigation is active and ongoing, authorities said.

“I am committed to holding each and every employee accountable to the oath they have taken to protect and serve our community,” Fulton County Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Labat said in an announcement. “The actions of this one officer are certainly not a reflection of the rest of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. The introduction of contraband to any of our facilities will not be tolerated.”
