Fulton County Sheriff’s Office arrests detention officer at Rice Street jail

Fulton County authorities have charged a 23-year-old detention officer at the Rice Street jail.

Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Detention Officer Jessie Scott was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, and charged with five counts of violation of oath of public officer, two counts of distributing obscene materials, one count each of impersonating a public officer, willful obstruction of law enforcement officer, and unauthorized possession of prohibited items by inmates. Scott was terminated on the same day.

He was hired as a detention officer on Dec. 7, 2022, and was still a probationary employee. Scott is being held on a $25,000 bond at the North Annex Jail in Alpharetta.

“When an officer chooses to violate their oath and display behavior that compromises our facilities, they must be held accountable,” Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Labat said in a release. “The termination of two officers in just two weeks demonstrates that we are beyond reproach to ensure the safety of all employees and the inmates in our care and custody. Our Jail Investigations and Criminal Investigations Units are working diligently to investigate employee misconduct and bring these offenders to justice.”

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and active, involving contraband entering the jail and the inappropriate and criminal conduct of the former detention officer.
