Ohio considering the addition of fetal-infant mortality review boards

Ohio lawmakers are considering legislation that allows local boards of health to establish fetal-infant mortality review boards.

The boards are included in Ohio House Bill 166, the state’s spending bill. The House Finance Committee is currently debating the measure.

The proposed legislation authorizes the boards of health to create the boards, which would be tasked with reviewing fetal and infant deaths within the board’s jurisdiction. The bill prohibits a review board from reviewing the death of an infant if investigators are probing a death or prosecutors are considering bringing charges.
