Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines is expanding its non-stop service from Houston George Bush Intercontinental to 10 new destinations starting in Spring 2015, the airline said.
The new locations include domestic cities, including Tampa, Baltimore and Oakland. Spirit will also start serving seven destinations in Latin America including Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua; the international routes are subject to foreign governmental approval, according to Spirit.
“We’re excited to offer our customers in Houston the opportunity to fly to and from these great destinations without having to spend a ton of money getting there,” Spirit Airlines’ President & CEO Ben Baldanza said in a news release.
The new destinations are in addition to the 12 non-stop cities Spirit currently offers from Houston, which includes Atlanta, Chicago (O’Hare), Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New Orleans, Orlando, and San Diego, along with connecting service to an additional 17 cities.
“The Spirit team arrived at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in 2012 offering two nonstop destinations but with this new announcement that destination total will soon stand at twenty-two,” Houston Aviation Director Mario C. Diaz said in a news release. “They’ve already proven their commitment to an aggressive growth strategy on the domestic front and now we’re anxious to see them apply that same philosophy to Houston’s international route map.”
