Fictional Civil War era correspondent tweets for anniversary

Beglan O’Brien, a fictional Civil War correspondent will be tweeting to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

O’Brien’s tweets are part of the National Park Service’s celebration of the anniversary, which started in February with the 18-city Lincoln Inaugural Journey. This year, the service also plans to commemorate Fort Sumter and the Battle of Manassas.

“From politics to eyewitness accounts, O’Brien’s nose for news delivers fascinating updates, reporting on the people and events of the times,” National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis said in a news release. “We hope this ‘real-time’ reporting will give modern day Americans a unique insight into the war as O’Brien follows the story wherever it takes him, from assignments embedded with Union and Confederate soldiers, to covering President Lincoln at Gettysburg.”
