What is the most dangerous spring break destination?

Apparently, Orlando isn’t just home to fairy tales and family-friendly attractions.

It’s the most dangerous place to spend spring break. That’s according to a new survey from Avvo, a website that ranks doctors and lawyers.

“Spring break is a time for fun but you have to be careful,” Mark Britton, founder and CEO of Avvo, said in a news release.

The top ten most dangerous spring break destinations, according to the survey:

  1. Orlando
  2. Daytona Beach, Fla.
  3. Las Vegas
  4. Myrtle Beach, S.C.
  5. West Palm Beach, Fla.
  6. South Padre Island, Texas
  7. New Orleans, La.
  8. Panama City, Fla.
  9. Jacksonville, Fla.
  10. Miami

In compiling its list, Avvo looked at a number of factors in 25 U.S. spring break destinations, including the risk of violent crimes, fatal car crashes and the number of doctors and lawyers per capita.

But, not everyone buys into the rankings.

“We’re not known as a violent city,” News 13 quoted Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood as saying. “Eighty percent of all the crime that occurs in Daytona Beach is a property crime – a burglary, a car break, identity theft, auto theft.”
