ATLANTA – The Georgia Aquarium this week announced the addition of a pair of juvenile beluga whales.
The whales – Grayson, a three-year-old male weighing more than 800 pounds, and Qinu (pronounced Kee-nu), a two-year-old female weighing more than 600 pounds – join the aquarium’s two adult beluga whales, Maris and Beethoven.
“Georgia Aquarium is one of the few aquariums in North America where beluga whales can be seen,” David Kimmel, president & COO of the Georgia Aquarium, said in a news release. “Being able to see and appreciate these youngsters will be an amazing opportunity for our guests.”
Added Kimmel: “I think our visitors will enjoy seeing the physical differences between the young beluga whales and the adults, as well as watching how they interact with each other.”
The juvenile whales were born at SeaWorld San Antonio and arrived at the Georgia Aquarium on Nov. 21, officials said. The whales are on display in the Georgia-Pacific Cold Water Quest gallery.
