ATLANTA – A candidate for state attorney general wants “No Candy Here” signs posted in from sex offenders’ homes on Halloween.
“This law is aimed solely at protecting our children on Halloween,” state Rep. Rob Teilhet, D-Smyrna, said in a news release. “This is already working in Florida, Indiana and Maryland, and it is something we should be doing to protect our children in Georgia.”
Teilhet said he plans to introduce the legislation during the 2010 legislative session. Under his proposal, sex offenders who violate the law would face 60 days in jail and a $1,500 fine.
“This is an excellent tool for our police officers and our parents to use on a night when many of our children are out and vulnerable,” Teilhet said. “As a parent, I want all children to steer clear of homes where sex offenders live.”
