Tonight Could Be a Milestone Night in Baseball

Three milestones are up for grabs tonight as New York Mets pitcher Tom Glavine goes for career win No. 300, San Fransisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds tries to tie the career home run record and New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez goes for career home run No. 500.

Bonds is looking to tie Hank Aaron’s career home run record. The Giants slugger currently has 754 career home runs, one behind Aaron.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez, who many believe could one day break the career home run record, has 499 home runs in his career.

Glavine is looking to become the latest hurler to win 300 games in his career when the Mets face the Milwaukee Brewers tonight. Glavine would be the first pitcher since future hall of famer Greg Maddux reached the milestone on Aug. 7, 2004.

“I know how exclusive this is and how … cool it will be to be part of it,” MLB.com quoted Glavine as saying. I never thought about it seriously until I got to 250. But from the time you start to learn about the history of the game, you develop a sense of what personal achievements are really special. And (winning) 300 games is right up there.”
