WINDER, Ga. — In an effort to alleviate parking problems downtown, the Winder City Council last week agreed to purchase an old hotel building on Broad Street for $200,000.
The city could close on the property – at the intersection of Broad and Athens streets – by the end of January, Mayor Buddy Ouzts said.
The city agreed to buy the building after asking the owner to clean up the property, saying it posed a possible fire hazard.
The city does not have a final design for the parking deck, but is seeking bids to raze the building, Ouzts said. Tentatively, the structure might have three street-level storefronts and two or three levels of parking
