LEITCHFIELD, Ky. – It’s easy to say there’s nothing to do your town. But here, when people say, “There’s nothing to do,” well, they really mean there’s nothing to do.
Nada.
In a recent, jaunt to this blip on the map; I had first hand experience with the nothing-to-do-dilemma. For that matter, it was hard enough to find a suitable place to eat. But, this trip wasn’t my first stop in this sleepy little hollow.
On a recent drive from Columbus, Ohio, to Clarksville, Tenn., I stopped off to fill my car’s tank with gas. Much to my surprise, I witnessed an individual smoking a cigarette within 20 feet of the gas pumps. It was at that moment I vowed to never return to Leitchfield. That lasted for all of eight days.
I have experienced the nothing-to-do-dilemma before, however.
In Clarksville, Tenn., there’s an age-old lament about a distinct lack of social options. And while it is not a Mecca of entertainment for the Middle Tennessee region, there is a lot more than “nothing to do.’ For example: There’s Franklin Street, McGregor Park, RiverWalk and on weekends during the school year, parties at Austin Peay State University.
In Leitchfield, there’s a Dairy Queen, a Mr. Gatti’s Pizza, a Pizza Hut, a few other “establishments” and well, that’s about it. The town is, however, served by two different newspapers – the Grayson County Gazette and The (Hardin County, Ky.) News-Enterprise.
I think for my next trip to the Central Kentucky region, a stop in Bowling Green, Ky., is more acceptable.
Sorry Brittany.
