As the holiday season approaches, certain traditions are expected: trees, carols and Santa Claus.
“The World of Saint Nicholas” brings these symbols of the holiday season to life as Bulloch Hall celebrates the season.
In December, Bulloch Hall will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday to Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, except for Dec. 24-25. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children aged 6 to 12.
The central hall of Bulloch Hall introduces the countries of the world. From Scotland to Russia and all countries in between, decorators have gone to extremes to painstakingly recreate motifs from the countries represented.
The festivities begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, with the “Friends of Bulloch Christmas party.” Music will be the highlight of the evening as Meredith and Jonathan Beker will perform on flute and violin in addition to “Wired for Sound.” Mittie’s Tearoom will provide wine and hors d’oeuvres.
On Dec. 8, “Christmas for Kids” is targeted toward the youth of Roswell. The following day, cake specialist Michelle Stewart will be on hand to assist in the creation of gingerbread houses. For $15, the class will teach attendees how to create an edible, delectable creation. Reservations are required.
On Dec. 14, residents will have the opportunity to take a 19th century lantern walk. Walking along Mimosa Boulevard and Bulloch Avenue, residents will sing Christmas carols at the 1830s Roswell Presbyterian Church. This event is sponsored by the Roswell Historical Society and costs $10 for adults and five dollars for children.
On Dec. 19 and 20, residents have the opportunity to make a reservation to visit with guests from the year 1853, such as John and Jane Dunwoody, Barrington King and the Roosevelt family from New York. After dinner, Curtis Richardson will lead folks back to the slave quarters and tell tales over cider and cookies. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
On Dec. 21, residents will be afforded a candlelight tour of the Archibald Smith Plantation and Bulloch Hall. For a cost of $10 per person, residents will be taken back to December 1853 and meet cotton planter Archibald Smith and his family.
