(defeo.biz) — The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Ga., will hold its popular Railroad Rendezvous event on July 16.

The event, scheduled from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on July 16,  features a range of indoor and outdoor activities, including model train layouts, railroad-themed activities and crafts. Sponsored by Dixie Precast, the event will also feature live music by local bluegrass musicians on the front lawn.

But, the highlight for rail fans and history buffs alike may be the rare opportunity to climb aboard the General. The locomotive was made famous during the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862 when Union spies stole the General in a bid to destroy the Western & Atlantic Railroad between Atlanta and Chattanooga, Tenn.

“Railroad Rendezvous is a fun opportunity for families to enjoy the museum and learn about railroad jobs like conductors, gandy dancers, and porters,” Southern Museum Executive Director Dr. Richard Banz said in a news release. “Everyone loves the model train layouts and activities, music, and summer fun. Every year this event gets better and better!”
