When Franklin Delano Roosevelt went to Warm Springs for the first time in 1924 for polio treatment, it was the start of his long-tenured association with the city.
I initially worried about visiting Invercargill. No one we spoke with seemed overly enthusiastic about the city, founded in the 1850s and New Zealand’s southernmost and westernmost city.
Queens Park, located just north of Invercargill’s city center, covers 80 serene hectares. It includes a rose garden, several walking paths and an animal reserve.
News of an American “influencer” who picked up a baby wombat, separating the animal from its mother, sparked outrage in Australia and topped the news headlines across the ditch in New Zealand.
It’s probably fair to say that most visitors to New Zealand aren’t thinking about the country’s cinematic history aside from perhaps “The Lord of the Rings.”
