Overview
The Loveless Cafe is a restaurant southwest of Nashville, Tennessee, whose origins date to 1951, when Lon and Annie Loveless purchased the Harpeth Valley Tea Room along Highway 100. The couple began serving fried chicken and homemade biscuits to travelers, eventually converting their home into a restaurant and adding a 14-room motel.
Lon Loveless managed the motel and cured and smoked country hams, while Annie Loveless prepared biscuits, preserves and other Southern dishes. The former motel and cafe complex became known for its traditional Southern cooking, particularly its biscuits, which are still made using a closely guarded recipe.
