Today marks a very somber day in our country’s history. It was six years ago that our nation was attacked in what was a vicious and vile plot to destroy not only our republic, but also freedom.

“This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time. None of us will ever forget this day. Yet, we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world,” President George W. Bush said on Sept. 11, 2001.

If there was any good to come from this tragedy, it is that for a few moments our country stood together. We weren’t hateful, we were all sad and we had resolve. Sadly, it seems, we as a collective nation no longer have resolve to do what is necessary to ensure our country’s security.

Maybe for one day, we can put politics aside and remember those who never came home on Sept. 11, 2001, and those who never saw family members again.

I will never forget that horrible day. I hope I never have to see another day like Sept. 11, 2001.

God Bless America. May this great republic live on for many years to come.
