Speight’s Brewery

Overview

The original Speight’s Brewery is located on Rattray Street in the heart of Dunedin. James Speight, Charles Greenslade and William Dawson established the brewery in 1876 after leaving their positions at Wellpark Brewery, today known as the Tennent Caledonian.

The brewery, best known for its Gold Medal Ale, one of the best-selling beers in New Zealand, is owned by the Japanese-controlled holding company Lion. The brewery also led to a chain of Speight’s Ale House gastropubs across the country.
